Great amounts of money are gathered to help with the tremendous expenses of the campaign. Years ago one presidential candidate vowed to visit every state during the campaign. Much of the travel was done by train, with the candidate appearing on the back platform from which he would speak to the crowds. This was the real meaning of the whistlestop campaign.
