THE WONDER OF WORDS: BOOK 2
ONE-HUNDRED MORE WORDS AND PHRASES SHAPING HOW CHRISTIANS THINK AND LIVE
After Moses and the people of Israel escaped from Egypt, they wandered for many years in the Sinai peninsula. At one time, a plague of poisonous serpents attacked the people. Many died of snakebite. Moses received a divine inspiration to make a bronze serpent and put it on the top of a pole. Anyone who had been bitten could look at that bronze serpent and be healed. (Numbers 21:8-9) The bronze serpent, from the days of Moses, became a national relic of the Hebrew nation. Gradually, it became the object of superstitious worship.
