At the formal academic ceremony of graduation at Wittenberg University, I saw a dog come behind the speaker's podium and drink out of the speaker's glass of water, then carry a cardboard box up the aisle. All of us seated on the dais wondered if the speaker would reach down for the glass and drink. He did not. But others see us quite differently than we sometimes suppose they see us.
