Honest Abe And Sarai

LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Series VII, Cycle A
Call To Worship
The view is long when we sit in the heat, resting beneath the oaks of Mamre. We can see all the way to heaven and back, watch travellers emerge from the haze of the desert, and come to know that God's promises are sure.
Collect
Three travellers, one God, the New Covenant in the Old - we will welcome strangers in our church, for we hope to entertain angels unawares. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
We praise you for Sarai's honesty, laughing at your ridiculous mercies. Perhaps others might laugh if they learned you meant to save us as well. You love laughter. You understand our skepticism. Thank you, for in you we live and move and have our being. Amen.
Hymns
"A Charge To Keep I Have"
"Joy To The World"
"When The Storms Of Life Are Raging"
Proper 6/Ordinary Time 11
Sunday between June 12 and June 18 inclusive
Second Lesson: Romans 5:1-8
Theme: Spiritual Calisthenics
Call To Worship
Sisters and Brothers, take your rest from God's appointed labors. In God we find our true home. Taste and see that the Lord is good.
Collect
Blessed be the Lord forever and ever. Blessed be the Lord forever and ever. Blessed be the Lord forever and ever. Amen and Amen.
Prayer Of Confession - Statement Of Faith (Romans 5:1-8)
Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God.
And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. Indeed, rarely will anyone die for a righteous person - though perhaps for a good person someone might actually dare to die. But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us.
Hymns
"Sweet Are The Promises"
"Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow" (Mennonite Old 606)
"God Be With You"
Proper 6/Ordinary Time 11
Sunday between June 12 and June 18 inclusive
Gospel Lesson: Matthew 9:35-10:8 (9-23)

Call To Worship (based on Psalm 89)
One: I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, forever.
All: Your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.
One: Let the heavens praise your wonders, O Lord, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones.
All: For who in the skies can be compared to the Lord? Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord?
One: Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you.
All: Blessed be the Lord forever. Amen and Amen.
Collect
Lord, we approach your throne in joy, coming into your presence with purpose and praise! Accept the offering of our hearts and minds in the Spirit in which they are given. Bless us and magnify our weaknesses for your work in the world. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, hear our prayers. We are your faithful people, struggling, but with your help, abiding still in your love. Lord, hear our prayers. We cry aloud to you and our community of faith hears. Strengthen us in the body of Christ as we seek to minister to each other. Lord, hear our prayers. We rely on you for wisdom and guidance, and for the peace that passes understanding. Grant our requests, heal our wounds, magnify our joys. These things we pray in your mighty name. Amen.
Hymns
"Amazing Grace"
"Were You There?"
"Lift Every Voice"
