Do you remember the movie Mutiny on the Bounty?
It was based on the true story of that island in the Pacific Ocean, and how it was changed by the reading of the Bible.
There had been six native men, ten women, and a fifteen-year-old girl on the island when nine soldiers were forced off the ship to live there. The Bounty went on its way without them.
One of the sailors discovered how to make beverage alcohol, and the whole colony suffered from drunkenness and sin.
One sailor, Alexander Smith, found a Bible. In fact he was the only sailor left, surrounded by native women and half-breed children. By studying the Bible, God's Word, he found Christ, and that made all the difference.
Twenty years later, when the outside world finally contacted Pitcairn Island, the colony was thriving, a community with no drunkenness or crime. There was no illiteracy, so all could read and write. The redeeming Grace of God, found through Bible study, changed everything.
