THE WONDER OF WORDS: BOOK 2
ONE-HUNDRED MORE WORDS AND PHRASES SHAPING HOW CHRISTIANS THINK AND LIVE
Robert Redford's movie about baseball, "The Natural," confirms the words of educator Jacques Barzun: "Whoever wants to know about the heart and mind of America had better learn baseball." Redford portrays Roy Hobbs, the farm boy whose dream is to become the best baseball player ever in the major leagues. On the night of his father's death, in 1918 on the Hobbs' farm, lightning struck a giant oak tree, splitting it in two. Roy fashioned a baseball bat out of a piece of wood and named it "Wonderboy." In the movie, Roy is a hero whose life is traced to the final, decisive game.
