Children can be helped to see a touch of the ridiculous in what otherwise might seem frightening to them.
Object:
an ugly witch mask.
Halloween is the time when little children sometimes are frightened by older children who wear masks. I have a mask here that might scare some little children.
What part of this mask looks scary? (Let them discuss this.) The mouth, the eyes, the [___] skin. Sometimes, when we're afraid of something, if we look at it carefully we can see that it isn't as awful looking as we thought it was the first time we looked at it.
