Series VI, Cycle C
Theme: The Suffering Servant
Call To Worship
Leader: We despised him and rejected him.
People: We ignored him as if he were nothing.
Leader: But he endured the suffering that should have been ours.
People: Because of our sins he was wounded.
All: We are healed by the punishment he suffered. Amen.
Collect
Almighty God, graciously behold this your family for which our Lord Jesus Christ was content to suffer death upon the cross. May this time of worship in which we recall the suffering and pain he endured enable us to recognize the price he paid for our salvation. Then may we be better prepared to celebrate his resurrection on Easter with hearts filled with gratitude. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, have mercy upon us as we acknowledge with shame that our sins are such as sent our blessed Lord to the cross. Help us to accept your forgiveness, so freely given, that we may go forth in newness of life to serve you in all that we do. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
O Lord Jesus Christ, the Suffering Servant who died for us upon the cross, we can never repay you for what you have done for us. We can only offer ourselves to serve you by proclaiming to others your free gift of forgiveness and salvation. Amen.
Hymns
"Hallelujah! What A Savior"
"O Sacred Head, Now Wounded"
"Go To Dark Gethsemane"
Good Friday
Second Lesson: Hebrews 10:16-25 or Hebrews 4:14-16; 5:7-9
Theme: Let Us Come Near To God
Call To Worship
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Humble yourself before the Lord, and he will lift you up. Come close to God with sincere hearts and a sure faith. Amen.
Collect
Lord God of the covenant, we come into the sanctuary to sing your praises and give you thanks for your great mercy. We come, Heavenly Father, trusting in your promise of new life. Be pleased with our worship, we pray, as we honor your name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Almighty and Everlasting God, have mercy upon us. We have not always entered into the fellowship of Christ's suffering, and yet we have charged you with being indifferent to our own sorrow and pain. Forgive us, we pray, in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Lord, we do not bring these offerings to take away our sins, but because Christ has taken our sins upon himself and given us new life. Bless these gifts and those who offer them that they may be used to your glory. Amen.
Hymns
"In The Cross Of Christ I Glory"
"When I Survey The Wondrous Cross"
"Were You There?"

Gospel Lesson: John 18:1--19:42
Theme: The Arrest, Trial, And Crucifixion Of Jesus
Call To Worship
Leader: Christ himself bore our sins in his body on the tree.
People: Christ died so that we might die to sin and also live to righteousness.
Leader: Christ was lifted high upon the cross so that he might draw the whole world to himself.
People: May we, who glory in this death for our salvation, also glory in his call to take up our cross and follow him. Amen.
Collect
Infinite and Eternal Spirit, our God and our Father, we know that you are never far from any of your children, and in this hour of worship we draw near to you so that in fellowship with you we may open our lives to your Spirit. May all the ties of love and friendship be made stronger through Christ, our Lord, who in his mortal agony was not unmindful that we need one another's love. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O Lord, increase our faith, renew our courage, and by your Spirit make us victors over all the trials and temptations that beset us. Hasten the coming of your kingdom of justice and truth. Show us that in every woe you are still with us, that in every sorrow you are still loving us. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Accept these gifts, we pray, Lord. May they be used to further your kingdom, and to share with others your great love for all your people, which was made known to us by the death of Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord. Amen.
