Call To Worship
Leader: Come, people of vision and dreams. Come to the Lord and see if your plans are God's plans.
People: We come before the Lord. Open our eyes and our hearts that we may be sure we are doing God's will.
Leader: Seek wisdom, O servants of God, for without wisdom all visions are empty and useless.
People: Open our eyes and our minds, O Lord, so that we may understand what we see.
Collect
O God, we have listened to words of encouragement from those who have said we can do whatever we have in mind because the Lord is with us. In our wiser moments we know that this is backward, and so we come before you seeking to know what you have in mind for us. May this time of worship be an occasion for us to respond: "Your will be done." Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, we are often so confident that you are with us that we do whatever we have in mind expecting you to rescue us if things don't go as planned. Fill us with your Holy Spirit that we may have the wisdom to lay our plans before you prior to going ahead with them. In this way may we truly know that we are following your will and not just our own. Amen.
Hymns
"God Of The Ages"
"O Worship The King"
Proper 11/Ordinary Time 16
Sunday between July 17 and July 23 inclusive
Second Lesson: Ephesians 2:11-22
Theme: We Are All One In Christ
Call To Worship
Leader: Christ has broken down the walls of hostility that have separated us and kept us enemies with other peoples and races.
People: By means of the cross Christ has united us into one body.
All: It is through Christ that all of us are able to come in the one Spirit into the presence of the Father.
Collect
Father in heaven, when we try to segregate other peoples, races, and nations, it is we who are being kept apart from you. We give you thanks that the walls of hostility have been broken down, and that in Christ we recognize that we are all part of the family of God. May this time of worship be a time when we recommit ourselves to Christ, through whom we are all able to come in the one Spirit into your holy presence. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Almighty God, if there are walls of animosity, jealousy, and prejudice that separate us from one another and from you, help us to see where we have had a part in erecting them. Then by the power of your Spirit give us the courage to take the initiative in tearing them down. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"O Church Of God United"
"In Christ There Is No East Or West"
Proper 11/Ordinary Time 16
Sunday between July 17 and July 23 inclusive
Gospel Lesson: Mark 6:30-34, 53-56
Theme: Do Not Grow Weary In Well-Doing
Call To Worship
Even when we come apart to worship and find respite from the troubles of the world, we will find among us those who stand in need of being ministered to. They are those for whom our touch and words of encouragement will provide the strength and healing they need.
Come, let us worship together, and let us be sensitive to each other's needs.
Collect
O God, even as Jesus sought to get away with his disciples from the clamoring crowds, so we, too, seek the peace and quiet that comes from withdrawal from our busy weekday schedules. Lord, even as Jesus found there was no escape from the needs of people, so may we also realize the need to be ever alert to where we can serve and worship you best by ministering to others. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Heavenly Father, when we are tempted to pass by on the other side because we are anxious to meet our own needs, help us to have compassion for those by the wayside who need our help. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Hymns
"Jesus' Hands Were Kind Hands"
"Where Cross The Crowded Ways Of Life"
