Series VII, Cycle A
Call To Worship
This is the house of the Lord. This is our sanctuary against the cares of the world. This is a part of the Body of Christ. This is where we have come this day to proclaim our faith and celebrate God's steadfast love.
Collect
Spirit of God, dwell among us. Lord of Life, guide us in our worship and in your will. Son of God, send us out as your emissaries. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, send us out in travail and hardship so we might restore life. Lord, push out beyond our comfort that we might share your peace that passes understanding. Redeem the years we believe we have lost and the hopes that seem dim and distant, and restore, if it is your will, our sense of purpose as we recognize your hand in our lives as individuals and as a congregation. We confess to you our doubts. We proclaim to you our faith. Amen.
Hymns
"Come Ye Thankful People, Come"
"The Church In The Wildwood"
"Here I Am, Lord"
Proper 15/Ordinary Time 20
Sunday between August 14 and August 20 inclusive
Second Lesson: Romans 11:1-2a, 29-32
Theme: The Gifts And The Calling Of God
Call To Worship
The Lord calls upon all of us today to be his servant people, his loving disciples, and his joyful children.
Collect
God of all, we are all your people. None of us are complete without you. You have given us a vocation, you have granted us gifts to share with each other, you have found us and called us to your kingdom. Guard us and guide us this day and this week. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession (Romans 11:29-32)
One: For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
All: Just as you were once disobedient to God but have now received mercy because of their disobedience,
One: so they have now been disobedient in order that, by the mercy shown to you, they too may now receive mercy.
All: For God has imprisoned all in disobedience so that he may be merciful to all. Amen.
Hymns
"Holy, Holy, Holy"
"Savior, Like A Shepherd Lead Us"
"There Are Many Gifts"
Proper 15/Ordinary Time 20
Sunday between August 14 and August 20 inclusive
Gospel Lesson: Matthew 15:(10-20) 21-28
Theme: No Prejudice In God's Family
Call To Worship (Psalm 67)
One: May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us; Selah.
That your way may be known upon earth, your saving power among all nations.
One: Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you.
All: Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you judge the peoples with equity and guide the nations upon earth. Selah.
One: Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you.
All: The earth has yielded its increase; God, our God, has blessed us.
One and All: May God continue to bless us; let all the ends of the earth revere him.
Collect
The beauty of your world overwhelms us, Lord. The richness of your goodness amazes us. The depth of your mercy astounds us. Today, as your people, we gather to repay what is beyond price - the salvation freely given to all. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord Jesus, we see that your actions and your words are one. You told your disciples that it is not the standards of our society which determine what is right, but the way in which we treat each other as children of God. You demonstrated how ugly prejudice can be, then you shocked your disciples by reaching out to the stranger. Challenge us today to welcome all your people into our church family. Inspire us to live what we proclaim. In your name we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"In Christ There Is No East Or West"
"Open My Eyes"
"For We Are Strangers No More"
