The fruits of repentance, reserves for the future
Prayer
Contemporary Lectionary Prayers
Based Upon Cycle C Lectionary Gospels
Gospel Theme:
The fruits of repentance, reserves for the future
Gospel Note:
The first two pericopes in this passage (vv. 7-9, based on Q, and 10-14, unique to Luke) contain the Baptist's preaching to particular groups, and are connected here by the theme of the ''fruits befitting repentance.'' The third (vv. 15-18, based on Mark) provides the eschatological context with threshing and storing imagery. It is noteworthy that all of the examples of ''fruits'' that Luke gives are social-ethical in nature and have justice as their common theme.
Liturgical Color:
Blue or purple
Suggested Hymns:
Herald, Sound The Note Of Judgment
The Only Son From Heaven
Hark, The Glad Sound
Rejoice, O Pilgrim Throng!
12
Advent 3
Lord, we want Peace but we are confused and
seduced by many different offers.
We are told that ''peace of mind'' can be obtained by
arranging a consolidation loan, joining a weight
loss program or investing in a spa membership.
Just think of it. No payments until February!
Is this what you mean by Peace?
We are told that we will discover ''peace of mind''
by getting away from it all, through a Club Med
vacation or a Caribbean cruise.
This cannot be what you mean by Peace!
Your Peace lies beyond our understanding. We
cannot control it, only embrace it!
Your Peace cannot be purchased at any price.
Your Peace will not be discovered by escaping from
life but by involvement in life.
Your Peace fills creation with music
and draws us into harmony with your purpose.
Your Peace is meant to be received, celebrated, and lived!
Lord God, take our wills and transpose them into
the key of your kingdom. Take our hearts and renew
them in your love.
Then we will know Your Peace.
Amen.
