CALL TO WORSHIP
Christ is the light of the world. As a Christian you are light and should leave darkness behind. Live like those who feel at home in daylight.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
One true Judge, you know us better than we know ourselves. You know our hearts and our thoughts, our motives as well as our actions. We confess that we tend to judge others and ourselves too much by appearances, by physical graces, by traditional manners rather than spontaneous helpfulness, by announced intentions rather than actual behavior. We would dread your true judgment, except for the mercy and goodness you offer us in Jesus Christ. Amen.
DECLARATION OF GOD'S FORGIVENESS
Hear the Good News! Though you once were all darkness, now as Christians you are light. Friends, believe the Good News! In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
EXHORTATION
Live like those who are at home in the light, for where the light is, there all goodness springs up, all justice and truth.
PRAYER OF THE DAY
Light Source, Light of our eyes, Light of our souls, open our eyes that we may see clearly and honestly, making judgments as you make them, and turning from all darkness, live in the light of truth and goodness and justice for all. Amen.
PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
Generous Provider, you pour out such great blessings that our cup runs over. Anointing Spirit, you touch us with the oil of gladness and make our faces shine with joy. Heaven-sent Healer, you do God's work with great simplicity, healing our sicknesses and restoring our souls. We give thanks to you and worship you with slowly-deepening appreciation. Glory be to you, Light-above-us, Light of the world, Light-within-us. Amen.
PRAYER OF DEDICATION
Divine Sovereign, elector and rejector of earthly rulers, only the Holy Spirit can hallow us to appear before you, and only the Spirit enables us to perform any service worthy of offering to you. Receive what we offer for the sake of great David's greater Son, even Jesus Christ. Amen.
PSALM 23
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures;
he leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul.
He leads me in right paths for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil;
for you are with me; your rod and your staff - they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD my whole life long.
