A Call To Worship
Worship Aids, Lectionary Year B
Call To Worship (based on 1 Corinthians 13)
Women: Though we speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not love, we are like a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
Men: And if we have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and knowledge ...
All: and if we have faith so as to remove mountains, but have no love, we are nothing.
Right: Love is patient. Love is kind. Love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude.
Left: Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful. It does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth.
All: Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.
Pastor: But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end.
All: But faith, hope, and love abide, these three, and the greatest of these is love.
Unison Invocation
Precious Lord, we are so blessed to live in an age of knowledge. We know so much more about the universe, from our own biology to our own behavior. How great you are to have created such a marvelous world. Let this knowledge be a gateway to building up your kingdom through love. Guide us as we seek to build up the body of Christ, through our time together at the table, our time together at the Bible, our time together in prayer and worship. Encourage us to seek the true knowledge that comes from Christ. Amen.
Morning Prayer
Lord, we more than acknowledge the love which called us into being -- we celebrate it! Your love is the source of our being. Your love called us forth though you were sufficient unto yourself. We pray we may mirror, though through a glass darkly, that love in our fellowship here today. We hear these joys and concerns, knowing you have heard them perfectly. We wait for your answer to our petitions. In the meantime, we resolve to minister to each other. Gracious Lord, these things we pray in your holy name. Amen.
Offering Prayer
God of gifts, God of glory, these glorious gifts of yours we return to you for your work. Amen.
Children's Benediction
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom!
