Once Abraham invited a beggar to his tent for a meal. When the prayer was being said, the beggar shouted, "There is no God! If there is, cursed be God's name!" The beggar was angry at God, for he blamed God for everything that had happened to him, even for his own laziness. Abraham stared at the man and said, "Look around at God's creation and be glad. Thank God for life which is the greatest gift God gives us." The beggar only repeated, "Cursed be God's name!" Abraham stood up and told the beggar to leave his tent, and the beggar left. That night while Abraham was praying, God said to him, "Where is the beggar I sent you?" Abraham replied, "I sent him away. He cursed your name, O Holy One." Then God said, "Abraham, that man has cursed me every day for fifty years and yet I fed him. Could you not put up with him for one single night?"
Talk together: In the Lord's prayer we say, "Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us." Why do we forgive?
Prayer: Dear Lord, help us forgive and thank you for forgiving us. Amen.
