There was a healthy controversy in England over a newspaper editorial that criticized a particular preacher's preaching. Then a parishioner wrote in complaining about the fact that he had faithfully attended worship services at his church for fifty years, and in all those years he could not remember a single sermon. He thought the preachers had done nothing to inspire him. For several weeks, letters appeared in the "Letters to the Editor"column, pro and con, about some preacher's sermons. Nothing seemed to quell the controversy.
