LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Series III
* CALL TO WORSHIP
Look for signs of the covenant which God makes with us and our
children to endless generations. No one who hopes in God will be
put to shame.
* PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Savior-God, at whose right hand sits the Risen Christ, having
received the submission of angels; without our baptism we could
not come before you in good conscience. Without the death of
Christ for our sins, we would be condemned. We are among the
unjust for whom the just Christ willingly suffered. Our only hope
of salvation is in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who was put
to death in the body and brought to life in the spirit. Were it
not for that Good News we too would be imprisoned by our sin and
guilt. Grant us continuing repentance and faith in the gospel;
under the rainbow of your covenant and our baptism in the name of
the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
* DECLARATION OF GOD'S FORGIVENESS
Hear the Good News! Christ died for our sins once and for all.
He, the just, suffered for the unjust to bring us to God.
Friends, believe the Good News! In Jesus Christ, we are forgiven.
* EXHORTATION
Through these forty days and all the days of your life, resist
the temptations of God's adversaries, in the strength that God is
willing to give you.
* PRAYER OF THE DAY
God of imprisoned prophets, so rule in our hearts that we may
turn back from every evil way and, believing the Gospel, be sent
by the spirit to people and places where the Good News has yet to
come; in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
* PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
Creator of All Life, Person from whom comes all persons, Maker of
Covenants, we see in the rainbow your promise never to destroy
all life by flood. We find in the church an ark to save us from
spiritual death. We give thanks to you for the continuing sign of
baptism to remind us of the death and resurrection of Jesus
Christ, the just for the unjust to bring us to you.
We rejoice that he is at your right hand, being raised to high
honor, after receiving the submission of angelic authorities and
powers. May all living things praise you. May all persons worship
and obey you. May all parties who covenant with you keep their
faith, or renew their promises, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
* PRAYER OF DEDICATION
Holy God, we are unworthy to stand before you except by the grace
of our baptism. Sanctify our gifts by the spirit that they may be
worthy of your use in the proclamation of the Good News of Jesus
Christ. Amen.
* PSALM 25:1-10
To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul.
O my God, in you I trust;
do not let me be put to shame;
do not let my enemies exult over me.
Do not let those who wait for you be put to shame;
let them be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.
Make me to know your ways, O LORD;
teach me your paths.
Lead me in your truth, and teach me,
for you are the God of my salvation;
for you I wait all day long.
Be mindful of your mercy, O LORD,
and of your steadfast love, for they have been from of old.
Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
according to your steadfast love remember me, for your
goodness' sake, O LORD!
Good and upright is the LORD;
therefore he instructs sinners in the way.
He leads the humble in what is right,
and teaches the humble his way.
All the paths of the LORD are steadfast love and faithfulness,
for those who keep his covenant and his decrees.
