Call To Worship (Psalm 8)
O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.
Out of the mouths of babes and infants you have founded a bulwark because of your foes, to silence the enemy and the avenger.
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?
Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor.
You have given them dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under their feet, all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas.
O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Collect
Lord, we are all your children, and our lives should rightfully be dedicated to you. Our every word, each action, all intentions, should be pointed toward your kingdom. We resolve with your strength to make this time yours. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession (based on Psalm 148)
Lord, at the close of this year we praise you! As we start a new year, we praise you! We are not alone in this praise. Men and women of good will around the world praise you. The angels praise you. The sun, moon, and stars praise you in the heavens. Every creature on the earth or in the heights or in the seas praises you. All growing things praise you. The winds praise you, the winter's silence praises you. Your will is perfectly performed all around us. We resolve again, with your help, to find your will for our lives as individuals and as a congregation as we gather today in praise. Let your Spirit dwell among us. Let your Son be our Savior. Lord, bless us in our gathering, and in our going forth today. Amen.
