ON A BUSY HIGHWAY, a small sparrow soared from the top of a telephone pole and glided across the road into the path of a fast-moving auto. The injured bird was knocked to the pavement where it frantically sought to evade the crushing wheels of the following cars.
The sparrow's efforts were hopeless, however: the traffic was too heavy; the automobiles too fast; and the drivers too preoccupied. The sparrow was lost; a victim of a hectic, mechanized society.
