Eric Eraser

Matthew To Revelation
Object: a well--worn rubber eraser
Good morning, boys and girls. Today we are going to talk about one of the teachings of Jesus that changed the world. It changed the way that people think and act.
I brought along a little friend of mine to help me show you how important that teaching is. I hope that it will help you to think and act as Jesus taught us to. My friend's name is Eric. His whole name is Eric Eraser. How many of you have a friend who looks just like my friend Eric? (let them answer) Take a close look at Eric and you will see that he is not the same as he used to be. (show them the well--worn rubber eraser) Does he look kind of worn out and used up? (let them answer) He is. That's the way that Eric likes it. Eric would not have it any other way. The best thing that can happen to Eric is for me to use him to correct one of my many mistakes.
I guess there are some erasers that would like to stay neat and clean and never be used. But that is not the way that Eric feels. Eric knows that the only way he knows that he is alive is to be used, and that is the way that he wants to live. I want you to know that this is the way that Jesus taught us to live.
Some people always want to save themselves, just like some erasers. They never want to be used, and so they never really live. They just lie in a box somewhere and are completely forgotten. But live erasers are ones that are used every day for every mistake until they are all gone. They love life and can hardly wait until they are all used up.
Every Christian should feel this way about the special promise made to us by Jesus. Jesus promises us that when we use up this life by living it the way that he teaches us to live, he will give us a new life that is even better than the one that we have now.
That is why I want all of you to be like Eric. He is not all used up yet, just like many Christians are not used up yet, but when he is used up, he will be happy. You will be happy, too, if you live for Jesus and share your life in love with all of God's people.
That is the story of Eric Eraser, and I hope you remember it today and every day, as you share the things that Jesus taught you with your friends and all of the people that you meet. Will you do that? Good. God bless you.
