The late United Methodist Bishop, F. Gerald Ensley, observed a boy building things with his Christmas toy, an erector set. The boy built a wagon first, then dismantled it completely and proceeded to use the same parts, plus a few more, to make a model airplane. The bishop told a denominational gathering how that procedure reminded him of God at work on individuals.
Here was a person quite needful of change. His whole being -- body, mind, and soul -- had been in serious trouble. But God was at work in the individual's life. He realized he needed a change in lifestyle and prayed about it.
God took his mind and renewed its processes. His body, which had been misused by bad habits and abused by drugs, was cleansed so that it could be used for a Christian lifestyle. God saved his soul.
Yes, he was the same man, but now he was a new being with better goals in life. The "wagon" had become an "airplane" to soar above his past way of life.
