One of my neighbors built a bomb shelter under his home some years ago when he added a porch to his house. The walls were poured concrete, not cinder block, and the ceiling/roof was made of reinforced concrete that was thick enough to protect the people who might have to take refuge within it against any bomb blast. He stocked it with the necessary supplies of food and water. He was expecting that the United States would be the victim of a sneak nuclear bomb attack and he was going to be ready for it.
