Call To Worship
Leader: Come, let all of God's people give praise and worship the Lord!
People: Let us be true to the Lord our God lest we be counted as ungrateful.
Leader: Many before have started on the way of the Lord but later strayed away.
People: Let us pray God will keep us close and deliver us from the evil one.
Leader: And let us give praise for the wonders the Lord has already done.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, You are righteous and just, yet in Your divine wisdom as You were faced with our unrighteousness You chose to pay the price Yourself to reclaim us. We praise You, O God. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, somehow in the busy and hectic way we choose to live life, we often allow ourselves to drift far away from the lives You would have us live. Too often, Lord, we even allow ourselves to go so far as to forget the commitments we have made to follow You and You alone. Forgive us, Lord, and once again draw us unto You and give us Your wisdom and love. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Sing Praise To God Who Reigns Above"
"Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise"
"Great Is Thy Faithfulness"
Eighth Sunday After Epiphany
Second Lesson: 2 Corinthians 3:1-6
Theme: Servants of the Spirit
Call To Worship
Leader: Give praise to the Lord for we have been given a new covenant!
People: For once we were burdened with the letter of the Law which destroyed life.
Leader: But now the Lord calls us to allow the Spirit to live through us.
People: The Spirit breathes new life into our hearts and makes us whole.
Leader: Let us praise the Lord for giving us the life-giving Spirit of Love.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O merciful and loving God, in Your gracious way You saw we were struggling and dying under the burden the Law had become and You gave us Your Holy Spirit. We give You our praise, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, somehow we manage so often to take even Your wonderful blessings and reduce them to the commonplace. You saw our burden with the Law and You gave us Your Holy Spirit, only to see us ignore Your gift much of the time and live as though Your Spirit is not real. Forgive us, Lord, and do not turn away from us as we again seek Your Holy Spirit in our lives. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"There's A Sweet, Sweet Spirit In This Place"
"Spirit Of Faith, Come Down"
"Breathe On Me, Breath of God"
Eighth Sunday After Epiphany
Gospel: Mark 2:13-22
Theme: Follow me.
Call To Worship
Leader: Come, let us worship, all who would hear Christ's call to "follow."
People: All are unworthy and sinners, yet God would call us each to serve.
Leader: The low will be made mighty and the meek will inherit the earth.
People: In Christ we are made whole and the rejected become chosen ones.
Leader: God's ways are mysterious and wonderful, greatly to be praised!
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O merciful and gracious Lord, just as when You called each of Your disciples, it is clear that all who take up their cross and follow You will receive Your blessing. Thank You, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often we have accepted the judgments of the world, and we have failed to see those around us through Your eyes and through Your Love. We have joined in rejecting the wounded and broken and did not offer comfort or help. We rejected the sinners and hurting and did not offer Your forgiveness. Forgive us, Lord, and help us to share Your Love. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Jesus, Keep Me Near The Cross"
"Lord, Help Me Live From Day To Day"
"I Would Be True"
