Easter 5
Poems
A GOSPEL TREASURY
Poems Based on Lectionary Gospels
Jesus promised he would send us
one who’d love us and befriend us,
God’s own Spirit to protect us,
and on Christ’s own path direct us.
Holy Spirit stands beside us,
here to strengthen and to guide us.
With his aid our souls are stronger,
and withstand temptation longer.
Help us now to know his presence,
who of God is very essence.
Let us worship and adore him.
Let us thank our savior for him.
Lord, you have not left us friendless.
In your love so strong and endless,
you have more than kept your promise.
Never take your spirit from us.
The comforter he sent is one
by whom our strength is built,
not just an aid to quiet rest,
a soft and downy quilt.
The strength he brings is not there just
for contest or for show.
It’s given for the helping up
of those who’ve fallen low.
one who’d love us and befriend us,
God’s own Spirit to protect us,
and on Christ’s own path direct us.
Holy Spirit stands beside us,
here to strengthen and to guide us.
With his aid our souls are stronger,
and withstand temptation longer.
Help us now to know his presence,
who of God is very essence.
Let us worship and adore him.
Let us thank our savior for him.
Lord, you have not left us friendless.
In your love so strong and endless,
you have more than kept your promise.
Never take your spirit from us.
The comforter he sent is one
by whom our strength is built,
not just an aid to quiet rest,
a soft and downy quilt.
The strength he brings is not there just
for contest or for show.
It’s given for the helping up
of those who’ve fallen low.
