Disciple disbelief and defection
Prayer
Contemporary Lectionary Prayers
Cycle B
Gospel Note:
After concluding his apparently sacramental remarks about his
own "flesh" and "blood" and adding some comments on the priority
of the spirit over the "flesh," Jesus turns his attention to the
obvious lack of belief among the crowd of disciples he has
attracted. Rather than water down his message to make it more
palatable to the masses, Jesus shows more concern with true
belief than with numbers, and simply allows the disbelievers to
depart.
