A popular book two generations ago was the Republican presidential candidate Wendell Willkie's One World. Back then there was an awakening to the need to be aware of how our world was, indeed, becoming one world with modern mass transportation, communication, and commerce. Groups like the World Federalists, Union Now, and others were working to bring about greater political and economic unification of nations. Today the presence of multinational corporations as world wide phenomena are just taken for granted in many influential circles.
