Theme: The Coming Of The Holy Spirit
Call To Worship
Leader: The Lord has made so many things.
People: How wisely he made them all!
Leader: May the glory of the Lord last forever!
People: May the Lord be happy with what he has made!
All: Praise the Lord. Amen.
Collect
Eternal God, our Creator and Sustainer, on the day of Pentecost you sent your Holy Spirit upon your church, and promised that it would abide with us forever. Let that same Spirit rule our hearts in all things, and empower us to do your will so that we may declare to all who will listen that whoever calls out to the Lord for help will be saved. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
God of all people, we confess that we have allowed the barriers of language and culture to keep us from reaching out to our neighbors with your message of love. May your Spirit give us the courage to break down these barriers so that we may see these people as brothers and sisters to whom we are sent with Good News of salvation and hope. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Thank you, God, for the gift of your Holy Spirit that enables us to catch a vision of what the world would be like if people everywhere turned to you. By that same Holy Spirit, empower us to follow these gifts with our prayers and our service so that we may all be one in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.
Hymns
"Holy Spirit, Truth Divine"
"Spirit Of The Living God"
"There's A Spirit In The Air"
Day Of Pentecost
Second Lesson: Romans 8:14-17 or Acts 2:1-21
Theme: We Are God's Children
Call To Worship
Leader: May the glory of the Lord last forever!
People: I will sing to the Lord all my life; as long as I live I will sing praises to my God.
Leader: May he be pleased with our songs, for our gladness comes from him.
People: Praise the Lord, my soul! Praise the Lord.
Collect
Yes, Lord, we will sing your praises all the days of our life for mighty are your works and wondrous is your creation. You have created us in many varieties, but we are meant to be one in the Spirit, for we are all your children. Fill us with your Holy Spirit as on the Day of Pentecost so that we might live together in peace and harmony, in accordance with your will. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Almighty God, you humbled yourself and became as one of us in your Son, Jesus Christ. By the power of your Holy Spirit teach us humility, so that we do not laud it over others who speak a different language or have a different culture. Enable us, we pray, to live and work together in true concord and with the spirit of love and respect for each other. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Lord of all that you have created, you have called us to be stewards of everything that we have. In that spirit, accept these gifts, we pray, and employ them in the work of your Church and to the glory of your holy name. Amen.
Hymns
"Filled With The Spirit's Power"
"Come, Holy Ghost, Our Souls Inspire"
"Breathe On Me, Breath Of God"
Day Of Pentecost
Gospel Lesson: John 14:8-17 (25-27)
Theme: The Promise Of The Holy Spirit
Call To Worship
Jesus promised his disciples that when he left them they would receive the Holy Spirit who would stay with them forever. When the Day of Pentecost had come, they were all gathered together in one place, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit.
Come, let us worship God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Collect
Lord of all creation, we remember with thanksgiving that you sent your Holy Spirit to give power to the disciples who were waiting in Jerusalem for this promised gift. Today, we are a band of your disciples gathered here to worship you and this is our plea: that you will send your Holy Spirit upon us so that the power of the gospel may be renewed in our hearts. With that power enable us with your Church everywhere to spread the Good News of salvation so that people throughout the world may hear it in their own language and welcome it into their own lives. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, you promised that we would have a helper, a counselor, a comforter to be with us forever --Êeven your Holy Spirit. Forgive us for being so preoccupied with our own plans and thoughts that we have often ignored or refused to listen to the voice of your Spirit. Overcome our lethargy, our selfishness, and our ignorance, we pray, and make your will known to us. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Heavenly Father, bless these gifts and use them for the work of your kingdom. May they enable some who have never heard the Good News to feel your Spirit working in them, calling them to open their hearts and lives to your guiding presence. Amen.
Hymns
"O Spirit Of The Living God"
"See How Great A Flame Aspires"
"Wind Who Makes All Winds That Blow"
