Creeds are summaries of basic beliefs and are used in worship and in teachings. The word creed is derived from the Latin credo, "I believe," and signifies a confession of faith, articles of belief. Creeds grow from within the church. They are conclusions to which the church has come in its understanding of the Word of God and in its defense against errors.
