LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Series VII, Cycle A
Call To Worship
Come worship the author of all good things, who stands behind all we have accomplished, who rejoices with us in our good fortune.
Collect
Let us thank the Lord for the manna which sustains even to this day, the bread of life and word of life which is God's gift and not our creation. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Like your children who forgot who sent the manna, who sustained them in the wilderness, who brought them to the promised glory, so we too forget that all good things have their origin in you. We take credit for our successes and cry aloud to you when we are visited by misfortune. Forgive us, and help us to see our ups and downs in the light of your salvation. Amen.
Hymns
"We Plow The Fields And Scatter"
"Holy Manna"
"I Am Leaning On The Lord"
Corpus Christi
Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 10:16-17
Theme: Behold The Body Of Christ
Call To Worship (1 Corinthians 10:16-17)
(Unison) The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ? Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread.
Collect
Body of Christ, present among us, live again in the breaking of the bread. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
One body, one Lord, one Life we share. When we exclude, Lord, we break up that body. When we judge we forget you are the only Judge. When we ignore, we turn our back on you. Thank you, Lord, for the living body of Christ, for your goodness that we see all around us. Amen.
Hymns
"Here In This Place"
"In Your Sickness, Your Sufferings, Your Trials And Pains"
"What Is This Place?"
Corpus Christi
Gospel Lesson: John 6:51-58
Theme: Good Bread, Better Bread
Call To Worship (John 6:53)
Very truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.
Collect
Soft bread, warm bread, new bread, how good. We eat this bread and are nourished. Living Bread, Lord, is even better. We break this bread and abide in you forever. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
How our pride prevents us from sharing the bread of life in the Body of Christ. Our sisters and our brothers are waiting, and we have our excuses. Forgive us, Lord, for our stiff necks, for our intolerance, and create anew the new life in you. Amen.
Hymns
"How Pleasant Is It" (see page 243)
"In The Quiet Consecration"
"Let Us Break Bread Together"
