Lectionary Worship Aids
Series V, Cycle A
First Lesson: Deuteronomy 8:2-3, 14-16
Theme: By God's Design
Call To Worship
When the devil tempted Jesus to make bread from stone, Jesus quoted the Deuteronomist: "One does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord." The bread that fills the belly and fuels the body is necessary for physical life. The bread which God offers with every word feeds our spirit and is necessary for spiritual life. Come, let us hear the words of God.
Collect
We come before you in humility, Holy God. We remember the stories of manna long ago. We are aware of recent stories of being fed in body and spirit as we journey through the wildernesses of today. We bow before you in gratitude for this nourishment. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
From the beginning of our religious heritage, Merciful God, we have called to you in the distress of hunger. You have led us through the wilderness. You feed us bread for life and nourishment for eternal life. Teach us to remember that, always, you have a gracious and redeeming plan to do us good.
Amen.
38A Hymns

Second Lesson: 1 Corinthians 10:16-17

Call To Worship
Leader: Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all share the one bread.
People: One bread and one body.
Leader: Come, let us worship God and participate in the holy feast of the blessed sacrament.
Collect
We are one in the spirit, O Holy Father, and in the blood which Christ shares in the cup. We stand in unity because of the body which Christ gives in the bread. Bless today the unity of all around the world who drink and eat of this meal. We ask in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Holy God, as we ponder the extent of Jesus' sacrifice for us, let us also consider the depth of our commitment to you. Hear our aim to honor Jesus as we try to live in healthy unity with others. Help us to stand true to our promises. We pray through Jesus Christ. Amen.
38A Hymns
"Lord Of The Dance" Tune: LORD OF THE DANCE
"Jesus, [Thou][The] Joy Of Loving Hearts" Tune: HESPERUS
"Lord Of All Hopefulness" Tune: SLANE
Corpus Christi
Gospel: John 6:51-58
Theme: Unless
Call To Worship
Unless we eat of the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, we have no life in us. His flesh is the true food and his blood is the true drink, nourishment for life eternal. Let us worship God.
Collect
How close to us you are, O Living God, in this living and holy meal. We who eat of the elements abide in you and you remain in us. Hear our gratitude for the possibility of such oneness in Christ who shares with us because of his union with you. We pray, therefore, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Forgive us, Merciful Creator, when we live in ways that make us unworthy to eat at this holy table. Help us to live lives that reflect unity with all of our brothers and sisters. For the sake of Christ. Amen.
38A Hymns
"Here, O My Lord, I See [Thee][You] Face To Face" Tune: ADORO TE
"Break Thou The Bread Of Life" Tune: BREAD OF LIFE
