HOLY WEEK CONFESSIONS
12 Worship Resources For Palm Sunday To Easter Sunday
The Silence Calls Us To Examine Ourselves
Time Of Reflection And Self-Examination
*P: Blessed be the God and Father of our Crucified Lord.
Blessed be the source of all mercy. Blessed be the God of all
consolation. It is God who comforts us in our sorrows and brings
healing to our pain.
C: The silence of the evening of this Good Friday calls
us to remember the pain of the Father in the sacrifice of his
Son.
P: As we are baptized into Christ Jesus so we are
baptized into his death.
C: The silence of this evening calls us to remember we
are baptized children of God.
P: As we are buried with Christ through baptism, we are
raised by God to new life.
C: The silence of the night calls us to come out of the
water to new life in Jesus.
P: As Jesus was given life by the Father so we have new
life through belief in the Son.
C: The silence of the night calls us to confess belief in
Jesus as Lord.
P: United with Christ in death, we will be united with
him in the resurrection.
C: The silence of death calls us to expect his second
coming.
P: If we have died with Christ,
C: So will we live with him.
P: If we are faithful to the end,
C: We will reign with him.
P: Lord, speak to us in the silence as we turn toward the
cross of Calvary.
C: The strife is o'er, the battle won. We gaze upon the
empty cross. Amen.
*Hymn: "Beneath The Cross Of Jesus"
The Silence Of The Empty Cross Speaks To Us
Prayer Of The Day
*P: Let us pray: Lord Jesus, on this Good Friday evening,
we stand on this side of your empty cross. Its shadow speaks to
our sinful hearts. We are awed by the sacrifice you made for us
at Calvary. We praise you for your death that purchased our
eternal life. Speak to us now in the silence of this time that we
might glory in your resurrection.
C: Amen. Speak Lord, your servants are listening.
The Scripture Calls Us To Listen In Silence
First Reading: Psalm 22:1-5 (Silence)
Second Reading: 1 Peter 3:18-21 (Silence)
Special Music
Gospel Reading: Mark 15:42-47 (Silence)
Hymn: "Were You There?"
Reflection Causes Us To Confess
And Receive God's Forgiveness
*P: Let us rise and make our confession: The Word reminds
us that we are sinners in need of a Savior. Good Friday's
silence reminds us of the innocent one who went to the cross in
our place. Let us openly confess before Christ Jesus our Lord.
C: Lord Jesus Christ, we are ashamed to say we have
walked the way of the world. In so many ways we have sought to
gratify our sinful desires. We have not been obedient to your
call upon our lives as your followers. Your death upon the cross
was for our sin. Hear the cries of our repentant hearts. Cleanse
us through the power of the blood. Wash us so we may be whiter
than snow. Surround us in the darkness with the light of your
love. Through our glorious and crucified Lord, Jesus Christ, we
pray. Amen.
*P: God the Father looks down in the silence of this
night. You, his precious children, purchased with the blood of
his Son, have forgiveness for your sins. Jesus pardons and
forgives you of your sin this night. Be restored to the Father
through the Son by the power of the Spirit.
C: We receive God's forgiveness. Amen.
P: Jesus had his hour of trial. He now stands
in the gap for us that we might not be judged but receive God's
mercy. Let our thoughts turn to God's sacrifice for us this
night.
*Hymn: "In The Hour Of Trial"
The Silence Awaits Its Breaking
*P: As Christ's followers awaited the breaking of the day,
they were entombed by their grief. They did not know what awaited
them with the dawn. The Resurrected Lord would appear and bring
joy once more. As we await Christ's resurrection this Easter
Sunday, reflect on his sacrifice. His death restored us as God's
creations to fellowship once more with our Creator. May this time
of continued silence
and reflection bring new hope and anticipation as you listen to
God speak his love in the silence of your journey to Easter Day.
(You may stay for prayer and further reflection.)
(Leave in silence when ready.)
