Come Into The Ark

LECTIONARY WORSHIP AIDS
Series VII, Cycle A
Call To Worship
Come into the ark, it's raining outside.
You'll catch your death of cold and the water is wide.
Let the world fall apart, let the trees take a bath.
Come into the ark. Get out of the wrath.
Salvation is free. Come into the ark.
It's raining outside and it's getting dark.
Collect
Lord, we send out a dove and wait for your reply. We pray for a sign that the dry land of your salvation is near. We're tossed and turned by the waves of the world. We wait. We trust. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
The ark is beached. We do not choose to find
Its crumbling planks upon the mountain's face.
Allow us, Lord, to share the chalice lined
With joyful sorrows from Ignatius' race.
The plain abandoned by the conflict past
Exists. What need to stand upon that dust?
Why visit Patmos when the first and last
Commands us now to act? Let gather rust
The harbored ships of war. We fill the cup
And live the words you spoke upon that hill.
As humble servant, Love commands we sup.
The ancient truth you shared invites us still.
A life surrendered, then returned in full,
We count the cost and then become your will.

Theme: A Refuge Of Strength
Call To Worship (Psalm 46)
One: God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
All: Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult. Selah.
One: There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy habitation of the Most High.
All: God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved; God will help it when the morning dawns.
One: The nations are in an uproar, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts.
All: The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
One: Come, behold the works of the Lord; see what desolations he has brought on the earth.
All: He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow, and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire.
One: "Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth."
All: The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
Collect
Lord, we know you are God, but it's hard to keep still, to wait even as we witness tumult and strife throughout the world - and in our own lives as well. Lord, we say we trust that you are the one who makes wars to cease, but we struggle with patience and endurance. Yet in all times we know you save your faithful people, from the fire or in the fire. As we gather to worship today we pray for vision, purpose, and strength. Lord we believe. Help our unbelief. These things we pray in your name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Not everyone who calls your name aloud is speaking from the heart. Lord, Lord, we plead for your forgiveness from the bottom of our hearts! Hear us and save us. Amen.
Hymns
"Built On The Rock"
"My Hope Is Built"
"The Word Of God Is Solid Ground"
