The Cleansing Fire

An impressive moment came, in the lives of many youth, on the night at church camp when they would gather, late in the evening, before the camp fire.
They had been instructed, during the evening meal, to write on a slip of paper, things in their lives they would like to be relieved of. We could call them sins.
There was some singing of gospel choruses they all knew, followed by the camp director giving a short, but meaningful, message on the cleansing power of the Holy Spirit. He likened it to the fire that was before them.
As the large pieces of wood became hot coals of fire, the youths were allowed to move forward and throw their list of undesirable things in their lives on the fire.
It was a soul-stirring moment for those who took it seriously. Their sins were gone, taken away by the cleansing fire of the Holy Spirit.
May it also be true for us today, to do the same thing, casting away all that hinders us from doing God's will (Hebrews 12:1).
