Liturgy
Praise the Lord
Litanies, Prayers, And Occasional Services
Object:
THE CALL
In creation, God spoke and the light appeared, and God saw that it was good.
In Christ, God's light is recreated for all humanity, and God gives us this light of love.
Come, people of God, come and see as God sees, that it is good.
HYMN
O Come All Ye Faithful
PRAYER
Shine upon us, God of light and life. Reach into our darkened world, find the corners where we hide from you, and move us into your marvelous light. As you sent Jesus to be born and live among us, be born in us anew this night. Come and live within our hearts and our world that we may find new life in the joy of your presence, for you are Emmanuel. Amen.

Leader: My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
People: For he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant.
Leader: Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
People: For the mighty one has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
Leader: His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation.
People: He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
Leader: He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly;
People: He has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty.
Leader: He has helped his servant Israel in remembrance of his mercy, according to the promises he made to our ancestors,
People: To Abraham and to his descendants forever.

Joy To The World
CALL TO PRAYER
Jesus comes to bring light to a world made dark by sin. Let us take this time to remember those whose lives are overshadowed by oppression and injustice and for whom this is not a time celebration but of affliction.
A TIME OF SILENT PRAYER
CHRISTMAS PRAYER
We come to you, O God, giving thanks for all the precious gifts we have received by your love. We celebrate once again the joy of receiving you, born again into our lives. The lights on the trees and in our homes reflect dimly the light of your grace that fills our souls. We thank you that in Jesus Christ our hope is renewed, that peace and justice will come for all people.
Re-create us in your likeness, O God. Give us the will to venture forward boldly in defense of those who cannot defend themselves -- the poor, the sick, the rejected, the imprisoned. Re-shape our hearts and minds that in us all may see your likeness. Renew us in your service, that we may love and serve you as we ought.
We trust in your grace and the promise of your presence. God with us, grant us mercy that we may be merciful. Send us into your world in the power and strength of your majesty, that we may spread the good news with joy. Amen.
THE LORD'S PRAYER
CANDLELIGHTING CEREMONY
The lighted candle represents Jesus, the light of the world. The pastor will first take a light from the Christ candle and pass it to the ushers who will pass it to the person at the end of each row. As the candles are lit, the other lights will be turned off. When all candles are lit, we will sing together -- "Silent Night, Holy Night."
BENEDICTION
God is light and in our God there is no darkness at all. If we walk in the light of God, then we will have true fellowship with one another. Go forward rejoicing, for our light has come. Alleluia, God is with us.
