Lectionary Worship Aids
Cycle C, Series IV
Call To Worship
Leader: Come, let us give praise for God's wonderful redeeming love!
People: For even while we were lost in our sins, Jesus died for us.
Leader: We were unrighteous, even the best of us, yet Christ died to wash us clean.
People: We enter this house of worship, praising God for our Lord and Savior,
Leader: And our voices proclaim the glory of the Lord God Almighty.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Most loving and merciful God, in Your infinite grace You were willing for Christ to die for our sins so that we might not suffer eternal condemnation. Help us to share Your Good News, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, even as we have reached the week before Easter, it is still difficult for us to fully understand the price You gave so that we should know Salvation. We have often taken the death of Jesus on the cross so lightly that we have hardly given it a second thought. Forgive us, Lord, and draw us ever closer to accepting the crosses You have for us to bear. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Alas! And Did My Savior Bleed"
"Lead Me To Calvary"
"Must Jesus Bear The Cross Alone"
Passion Sunday
(Sixth Sunday In Lent)
Second Lesson: Philippians 2:5-11
Theme: Christ came for our sake
Call To Worship
Leader: Let our hearts be filled with joy; let our souls give praise to God!
People: For we have received the mercy and grace of God in Christ our Lord.
Leader: Christ died on the cross for all sin, even that we today might be saved.
People: Christ died for our sins even as we rejected the message of God's love.
Leader: Surely God is love itself and truly worthy to be worshiped and praised.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Most loving and merciful God, in Your divine plan to redeem us You allowed Christ to go to the cross so we might learn the depth of Your love. Truly You are worthy of our deepest praise. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, the thought of losing one of our children is almost more than we can bear, yet we have often taken the price You paid for us so lightly. Lord, we have treated the cross as if it were just a story, and the pain and heartbreak it represents were not real. Forgive us, Lord, and call us anew to take up our crosses and follow You. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Alas! And Did My Savior Bleed"
"The Old Rugged Cross"
"More Love To Thee"
Passion Sunday
(Sixth Sunday In Lent)
Gospel: Luke 22:14--23:56
Theme: The Crucifixion
Call To Worship
Leader: We come together in the house of the Lord only through God's mercy.
People: For we have all sinned and fallen short before the glory of God.
Leader: Yet through Christ, God does not hold our sins before us.
People: Through Christ we walk in freedom and love to reach out to the world.
Leader: In Christ we take compassion and not God's wrath to the world.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Almighty and omnipotent God, You watched as we held a mockery of a trial and then nailed Jesus to the cross. Your love was greater than our sin, and we give You our deepest love and praise. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so many times we have chosen to hold on to our guilt and our sins and we have failed to accept Your mercy. We hold on to our feelings of being unworthy and deny the message Christ proclaimed of Your love and Your forgiveness. We focus on our own lives and fail to be witnesses to the world of Your grace instead. Forgive us, Lord. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Go To Dark Gethsemane"
"The Old Rugged Cross"
"Must Jesus Bear The Cross Alone"
