Better Moonshine!

Purpose Statement: Since "prohibition didn't work" is often used as an argument for not making other troubling activities illegal, all of us need to become aware that prohibition did work and the conditions during prohibition were much better than before or after.
It is better to have moonshine, bathtub gin, or illegal alcohol than to have legalized drink ravaging our society. What hardly anyone knows today due to the propaganda of the liquor industry and the unwitting cooperation of the news media is that prohibition worked!
a. Begin with a recitation of the tremendous cost of drinking in destruction of lives and family life. We dread cancer and yet we invite health problems and even death into our lives by using alcohol. Studies show around seventy percent of crime and about fifty percent of highway deaths are related to drinking. (Proverbs 23:29-35 is descriptive.)
b. Tell the true story of prohibition. While we have been brainwashed to believe otherwise, literature exists that reveals the truth that conditions under prohibition were far better than before or after, though it is hard to come by. One of the best sources is the book Drinking in America: A History, published in 1987 by The Free Press. Interestingly enough, it is not anti-drinking. If anything, it is pro-drinking. And yet pages 136-139 are a powerful testimony concerning the truth about how successful prohibition really was.
c. State why Christians shouldn't drink.
1. It destroys your health.
2. It impairs your ability to be rational.
3. You are an influence on others. (1 Corinthians 8:9-13, Romans 14:13-21)
4. By drinking you keep a destructive industry alive.
5. Drinking supports using 10,000 tons of grain a day for destruction while 10,000 people starve.
6. Drinking serves no good purpose whatsoever.
