4 and 5: and the darkness did not overcome it.
(Read in storytelling fashion.)

1: The true light,
2, 3, 4, 5: which enlightens everyone,

1: yet the world did not know him.
(1:) He came to what was his own,
2, 3, 4, 5: and his own people did not accept him.

1: he gave power to become children of God,
2 and 3: who were born, not of blood
3 and 4: or of the will of the flesh
4 and 5: or of the will of man,
2 and 3: but of God.
(1:) And the Word became flesh and lived among us,
2, 3, 4, 5: and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father's only son, full of grace and truth.
