Collect
O Lord, our God, we worship you as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We give you thanks that after his resurrection Jesus left his disciples to be with God the Father, but through the Holy Spirit he remains with us to give us the power to carry out his mission of taking the gospel to the far corners of the earth. This morning as we remember Jesus' departure, give us a better understanding of the Ascension. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Almighty God, sometimes when we do not fully understand your mighty acts, we tend to doubt and question. Help us, we pray, as we seek answers to our questions to find a deeper faith that enables us to put our whole trust in you. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Heavenly Father, you have commissioned us to witness to your Son, Jesus Christ, throughout the world. Bless these gifts, we pray, that they may be used to carry out that witness. Amen.
Hymns
"All Hail The Power Of Jesus' Name"
"Hail The Day That Sees Him Rise"
"Crown Him With Many Crowns"
Ascension Of Our Lord
Second Lesson: Ephesians 1:15-23
Theme: The Church Is Christ's Body
Call To Worship
Welcome to this time of worship. We are part of the Body of Christ, and are called to carry on his ministry. As we sing God's praises and offer up our prayers of thanksgiving, may we be renewed in spirit and call upon the power of the Holy Spirit to fulfill our task.
Come, let us worship together!
Collect
We give you thanks, Almighty God, for all your blessings. You have challenged us to be Christ's Body on earth. We know that by our own power we can do little, so we beseech you to send your Holy Spirit that we might have a vision of what the world would be like if the Church, all of the varied parts of your Body, would work together for the building of your kingdom. This we pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
O God, we have been guilty of belittling our fellow Christians in other denominations. We have failed to work together in unity, so that we might show the world the harmony and love that brings us all together as one Body, with one Lord and Savior of us all. Forgive our foolishness and create a right spirit within us. We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Accept these gifts, O Lord, and may they be used to foster good will among the churches in our community that we might work together in harmony to carry out your mission. Amen.
Hymns
"I Love Thy Kingdom, Lord"
"The Church's One Foundation"
"God Is Here"
Ascension Of Our Lord
Gospel Lesson: Luke 24:44-53
Theme: The Ascension
Call To Worship
Leader: Come and listen, all who honor God, and I will tell you what he has done for me.
People: I cried to him for help. I praised him with songs.
Leader: If I had ignored my sins, the Lord would not have listened to me.
People: But God has indeed heard me; he has listened to my prayer.
Collect
Lord, your last act before your Ascension was to bless your disciples. We, too, come seeking your blessing that your Holy Spirit might rest upon us, and give us the power we need to be useful disciples, willing to witness to your love among all people. In Christ's name we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Ever-loving Father, we know that you love us even when we are unlovable. So great is your love toward us that you gave your only Son, Jesus Christ, that we might come to know your forgiveness and your loving care. Empower us by your Holy Spirit, we pray, that we might carry out Christ's command to take the message about repentance and the forgiveness of sins to all nations. Amen.
Offertory Prayer
Almighty God, you do not need our offerings as much as we need to present them to you. Accept our gifts, we pray, as tokens of our thanksgiving, and use them to take your message of repentance and forgiveness to all peoples everywhere. Amen.
Hymns
"Christ Is Alive"
"Jesus Shall Reign"
"Surely The Presence Of The Lord"
