for a charter member of the church
James W. Robinson
Long before Florence became a charter member of this church, John Newton wrote a hymn that has remained among the leaders in the hit parade of Christian music. It has been around for nearly two centuries. Christians have sung it with shining faces and tear--dimmed eyes in little white country churches nestled in groves of trees and in great stone churches located in the heart of bustling cities. On occasion its lyrics and haunting melodic strains have held the unchurched youth of America enthralled.
