1. Alas! I’m sunken in despair,
Twice burdened with my grief;
A life distraught beyond repair;
A soul beyond relief.
2. Oh, see my days in sorrow spent,
Forsaken and cast down;
While enemies will not relent,
Scorn is my bitter crown.
3. A broken vessel, useless pot,
Forgotten and alone;
I seek, in vain, a resting spot,
A solace all my own.
4. Just so, my Lord, his passion bore,
For sin he did atone;
Rejection, cruel grief most sore,
In love, suffered alone.
