Lectionary Worship Aids
Cycle C, Series IV
Call To Worship
Leader: Gather now for worship, all who would seek to be faithful to the Lord!
People: The Lord is our salvation and in no other name can we know genuine life.
Leader: For the wages of sin are truly death, both to our spirit and to our body.
People: In sin we knew desolation, for the Spirit of the Lord was not with us.
Leader: But in Christ we are redeemed and the Spirit of the Lord gives us life.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Most wonderful God, in Your mercy and grace You have allowed us to experience a taste of the price we must pay for sin. Lord, give us the wisdom and strength to be faithful servants. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often as we have experienced the emptiness of sinful life we have become bitter and hateful instead of repenting and returning to You. Too often, Lord, we have even vented our anger and shown our resentment over the discomfort we feel by seeking after our own gods. Forgive us, Lord, and lead us again to a life of faith and repentance. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"All Your Anxiety"
"Higher Ground"
"Revive Us Again"
Proper 22
Sunday between October 2 and October 8 inclusive
Second Lesson: 2 Timothy 1:1-14
Theme: Bold and confident faith
Call To Worship
Leader: Let all who proclaim Jesus Christ as their Lord come now for worship!
People: We are children of the living God, adopted through the cross of Christ.
Leader: Let us proclaim the mighty power of Christ for all the world to hear.
People: The love of Christ has touched our souls and redeemed us before God.
Leader: Let us lift our praise to the Lord, whose love gives us life eternal.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
O God, in Christ You have given us life eternal and joy in our hearts no matter what the circumstances in life that surround us. Help us to proclaim the wonder of Your love in all the world. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, so often when we could have boldly declared what Your love has meant in our lives we have instead been timid or even silent. When we could have shared Your Good News with a personal word of faith to a hurting world, we have instead chosen to speak in meaningless platitudes. Forgive us, Lord, and once again call us to proclaim Your Gospel. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"There Shall Be Showers Of Blessings"
"I Am Thine, O Lord"
"My Jesus, I Love Thee"
Proper 22
Sunday between October 2 and October 8 inclusive
Gospel: Luke 17:5-10
Theme: The power of faith
Call To Worship
Leader: Let us gather together and declare our faith for all to hear.
People: But our faith is small and our witness seems so weak.
Leader: The Lord has promised to do great works with only the tiniest faith.
People: But dare we trust and truly step out; will the Lord honor our faith?
Leader: Step out on your faith! The Lord is faithful to all who will obey.
All: Blessed be the name of the Lord!
Collect
Most loving and gracious Lord, in Your infinite wisdom You have called us to be people of faith who can move the mountains of life. Increase our faith, Lord, that we may serve others. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Prayer Of Confession
Lord, sometimes we are so timid. Even when we hear Your word clearly, we will not trust and follow. Your ways are not the world's ways and too often we would seek the security we think we see in the world. Forgive us, Lord, and help us learn how to use the grain of faith You have given us so that we might move the mountains in life. In Christ we pray. Amen.
Hymns
"Have Faith In God"
"How Firm A Foundation"
"Hymn Of Promise"
