Object:
a Bible, gift-wrapped boxes
Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!
-- 2 Corinthians 9:15
Materials: a Bible, gift-wrapped boxes
What if I told you I had some really fabulous presents in these boxes (show them the boxes), like tickets to an amusement park, an iPod, or a ten-speed bike? Would you be excited to get one of these gifts? How would you thank me? (let them answer)
If you got one of these gifts, it would be really important to say thank you in some way wouldn't it? Well, these beautifully wrapped boxes are empty. I don't have any gifts in them, because I want to talk with you about gifts that are even better than anything that might come in a box -- special gifts that God gives us. What do you think I mean? (let them answer) Did you know these are all gifts from God?
I'll read our verse for today from the Bible. It's in the New Testament, the book of 2 Corinthians, chapter 9, verse 15. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! (have them repeat) How can we thank God for all the wonderful gifts we receive every day? (let them answer) It's really important to remember to thank God for the gifts we have. This is the verse for this week. Let's say it together. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! -- 2 Corinthians 9:15.
Prayer
God, we can never thank you enough for all that we have from you. Help us to remember to be thankful and to share your good gifts with others. Amen.
