Preaching Eyes for Listening Ears
Sermons and Commentary For Preachers and Students of Preaching
This sermon was preached in the Columbia Seminary Chapel only a few weeks before my retirement from the faculty. It is addressed specifically to the issue of worship at the seminary. It deals with a concern of my own; I am not sure it was a concern of many others in the congregation.
I had come to sense that, at least for me, the repetition of formal printed prayers of confession was beginning to become routine and somewhat meaningless. This sermon may be an example of the preacher preaching more to himself than to the congregation.
