In ancient times, people were of the mind that the earth was square. It followed that mariners took care not to exceed certain distances lest they topple over the edge, plunging headlong into an eternal abyss of nothingness. It would require many years for the flat and square theory to be disproved, but one day the discovery of a magnificent truth would extend the horizons to allow possibilities previously undreamed of. The world, it was determined, is round!
"Ho-hum." you say. But that is because we are so far removed from the discovery of this particular truth and a people long in possession of the fact. The truth, which we take for granted, enables us to enjoy considerably more freedom than those who had not yet discovered it. We are able to explore, travel, and delight in the vast expanses of our sphere without regard to falling over the edge.
We are the post-moonwalk generation. We are conditioned to rapid discovery. As a matter of fact, there are those who take little notice of the periodic blast-offs which thrust spacecraft into the heavens to encircle the planet earth many times. We are accustomed to it.
Unfortunately, we have not seized upon spiritual truth as enthusiastically as we have temporal truth. For millions, the truth of the Gospel is still a revolutionary reality awaiting discovery.
