"If you obey my teaching, you are really my disciples ..."
There is the delightful story about the fellow who came down from the Kentucky hills for a little vacation. When his cousin saw him, he said, "Clem, Where you agoin?" to which Clem answered, "I'm agoin down to New Orleans for a little break." Almost satisfied, his cousin asked, "That's fine, Clem, but what are you doin' with that Bible under your arm?" Clem answered, "Well, Cix, I've been hearin' about all the neat things going on down there. Like good parties, fine women, lots of wild times, and just a good chance to get some good liquor, good women, good jollies. Then I got to thinkin' if it really turned out to be that good, I just might stay over till Sunday!"
We chuckle over that, but how many of us love to hear the language of grace, mercy and peace; the word of promise and comfort of the Gospel, but we have no intention whatever of letting it affect our discipleship, just so long as we "stay over till Sunday?"
