John Selwyn, after whom Selwyn...
John Selwyn, after whom Selwyn College in Cambridge, England, was named, served for a time as bishop of Melanesia among people who once were cannibals and had taken the life of an early missionary among them. One day during a service of baptism, Selwyn had to rebuke a man who was not far from the level of a savage. This man became angry and struck the bishop in the face. Selwyn was a strong, athletic person and he was certainly a match physically for this intruder. Instead he folded his arms quietly and stared the man down and the savage raced off into the jungle.
