A Modern Fable
I received an invitation in the mail. "Come to the party! Everyone will be there," it said. That was all. In my imagination, I could see the celebration: people laughing, dancing, feasting on the finest foods, without a care in the world. I yearned to join in the revels, but what was I to do, when I knew neither the time nor the place? So I sought out the party by travelling up and down the streets knocking on doors and accosting strangers in search of the great feast I knew was mine by right. Day after day, my search continued, until one day I looked around me and saw the people of my town. They were happy and contented, rejoicing in the simple things of life, giving thanks for all they shared. The invitation was right. Everyone was there! -- Walker
