Once an uneducated peasant boy, but a very bright one, kept his true character in secret. He was employed as a servant in the House of Study and had to be there day and night. Feeling that heaven wanted him to keep secret his fervor, he slept while the others were awake and prayed and studied while they slept. For years he kept his wisdom and devotion a secret. Then one day a wise rabbi found him, and knowing who he was, asked if he could study the "writings" under the boy's direction. He agreed on condition that their agreement remain secret, for this too he felt heaven wanted him to keep secret. So together they learned in secret, storing up their treasures in heaven.
