No more bad habits
Children's sermon
Object:
a candy bar
Good morning, boys and girls. How many of you like candy bars?
(Let them answer.) I brought one of my favorite candy bars this
morning. It reminds me of this morning's lesson. I want to tell
you the story about a little boy about your age who liked candy
bars also. The problem is that his love for candy bars got him in
trouble. The little boy was given a few candy bars and he kept
them in his room. He would get hungry late in the afternoon, just
before supper. That's when he would open the wrapper and eat one.
When his parents called him for supper he wasn't hungry. Has this
ever happened to any of you? (Let them answer.) He did this on
many afternoons. He was never hungry for supper. His parents
finally decided to check up on him in his room and found him
eating candy bars before supper. What do you think his parents
said to him when they discovered what he was doing? (Let them
answer.) This boy had developed a bad habit -- eating right
before supper.
This morning's lesson tells us about bad habits. Jesus tells us that if we have a bad habit that we must stop doing whatever it is. Most people have one bad habit or another. Even adults have them. Some bad habits are that we talk too much. Some bad habits are that we say bad things about other people. Some bad habits are that we say things that aren't true. Some bad habits are that we eat candy bars before supper!
This week I want you to think about a bad habit that you may have. See if you can get rid of it. Jesus tells us to get rid of our bad habits. See if you can get rid of yours this week.
