In this week's lectionary gospel passage, Jesus continues his healing ministry by leaving the synagogue and making a house call on Peter's mother-in-law. It's a striking image for contemporary audiences, because many of our senior citizens can remember a time when house calls from doctors and other professionals were fairly routine -- a state of affairs that may be hard to imagine for many of our younger members. But as team member Mary Austin notes in this installment of The Immediate Word, the practice of making house calls is beginning to make something of a comeback.
