Messages For Children On Lent And Easter Themes
Ty asked his father, "Why do we go to church?" When his father did not reply, Ty asked again, "Why do we go to church? God is everywhere."
Ty's father said, "Ty, why do you go to the woods?"
Ty replied, "I go there to find and be with God."
His father protested, "But, Ty, you said God is everywhere, that God is the same everywhere."
Ty said, "But, Dad, I'm not."
His father smiled and nodded. "That is why we go to church. I would rather fly with a pilot who has had lessons than with one who has not. I would rather learn about the Christian faith from a fellow Christian than from 'the person on the street.' Going to church is something our family does together."
So Ty went to church. He participated in worship with his presence, his gifts, and his service. And one day, long afterwards, he answered his own child who asked, "Why do we go to church?"
In our sacred story for today Mary went to the tomb where Jesus was buried, but he was not there and she did not know where they had put him.
Talk together: Where do you find God? Where do we find Jesus? In the Bible Jesus said that where two or three are gathered in his name, he is among them.
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for Christ among us, for searching and for finding, in Christ's name. Amen.
